In a world of nutrition fads, it can be difficult to know what’s truly the best approach to a healthy diet, and that includes nutrition for your body, food for your brain, and food for your spirit.

As the infographic above shows, it is not possible to eat a high protein diet year round. If you eat less than 20-25% of your daily calories from protein there is a need for you to eat some carbohydrates each day. Despite this, many individuals choose to eat nothing but meat. Occasionally, the idea of eating nothing but meat is seen as a joke, however, some people take this seriously enough to eat only meat for a month.

In this book, you will learn how simple a concept it is to eat biologically pure foods. It is the basis of a healthy lifestyle and a healthy body.


Diets restrict food consumption, but what if you only eat one kind of food?

The carnivorous diet is based on this idea (also known as the no-carbohydrate diet, the carnivorous diet, or the plant-free diet). This way of life consists entirely of animal products – and more! Of course, fat is an essential component of this way of life (no one needs to get sick of hungry rabbits).


We think meat – a lot of meat – as we read Dr. Paul Saladino’s Carnivore Code for our latest book club pick. We begin this book review by looking at the fundamentals of the carnivorous diet and speaking with two ladies who have found health and pleasure by following this way of life.

Carnivorous diets are often approached by dietitians in one of three ways.


  • Animal meat and by-products such as lard, eggs, cheese, milk, and butter make up the majority of animal goods. Milk is often avoided due to its high sugar content.
  • Dieters stick to a basic diet of meat, fat, and eggs since some individuals don’t like cheese or cream.
  • Only meat: A genuine carnivore diet consists only of meat, fat, and water (with the occasional addition of coffee if you can’t live without it).


What are the advantages of a low-carbohydrate diet?

You may be thinking to yourself, “How can this possibly be beneficial for me?” Fat as an energy source (through ketosis) is our body’s and brain’s preferred source of energy, and it comes with a slew of health benefits:

  • Reduce fiber consumption to improve digestion (I know, it’s the polar opposite of what we’re told!).
  • Mind clarity due to a diet rich in lipids and proteins
  • Limit carbs and prefer fats to reduce inflammation.
  • Weight reduction is accelerated due to a steady blood sugar level.

But that’s not all: a carnivorous diet may have life-altering consequences.


Take, for example, Charlene Andersen (top picture, left). Charlene suffered from a slew of diseases, including Lyme disease, trichotillomania, depression, migraines, dyspepsia, and a slew of others. She switched to a carnivorous diet after failed trips to the doctor, when she had given up hope of ever being cured, and started to magically heal herself of her ailments.

She looks better than ever at 47 years old! What’s even more thrilling is that this year marks her and her husband Joe’s 22nd year at the carnival!

And then there’s Kelly Hogan (top right), who was overweight and tried everything from low-calorie diets to starvation (she even ate only cucumbers for a month – which, although effective, wasn’t long-term).

Her doctor set a 30-pound weight loss goal for her and placed her on a low-carb, high-fat diet (hey, hey, that’s keto! ), which evolved into a carb-free lifestyle five years later. She was able to lose weight while also reversing her infertility thanks to this diet! She’s had three lovely children since then, and at 43, she’s in the best shape of her life!


Because I used to suffer from IBS and other digestive issues, I can personally testify to the health advantages of a low-carb diet.

I’ve found that when I eat high-fat, high-fat meals, I’m much more focused on resolving these issues. I aim to consume mainly fatty meats and animal products (hello, ribs! ), but I do eat lean meats and nuts on occasion. And, of course, I can’t pass up the opportunity to test out a couple of Lina’s fantastic keto recipes!

Changing your diet to a carnivorous one


Who’d have guessed that after being so confined, I’d feel more liberated, healthier, and happy than I could have dreamed! Charlene –

I’ve never had to make a choice or a commitment in my life. My husband and I had no intention of adopting a meat-eating lifestyle. I was in excruciating pain. We stopped eating anything that made me feel bad. I was pleased to learn that the first seeds had been distributed at….. Then I cut off all dairy products…. I felt much better. All legumes, starches, and fruits were soon outlawed as well. Each thing left behind enhanced my health, as shown by our daily diary.

I was finally ready to give up my favorite food: vegetables. My health has soared to unfathomable heights since I eliminated all veggies from my diet! I’ve lived every day, I’ve experimented, and I’ve had numerous triumphs and disappointments. My emotions and conclusions lead me to a diet consisting mostly of meat (particularly fatty ribs) and water. I made the decision to feel well and avoid anything that could induce symptoms.

That was the conclusion I came to. To liberty!!! Freedom from illness, agony, exhaustion, extreme hunger, obesity, spiritual anguish, darkness, and bewilderment was the greatest gain. I can think of at least a hundred items I’ve gotten rid of. Who’d have guessed that by restricting myself so severely, I’d feel more liberated, healthier, and happy than I could have imagined?

Kelly became carb-free after figuring out a way out of a tough lifestyle:


I was over 260 pounds when I quit eating carbohydrates. I dropped the majority of my weight by following a very low-carb diet, restricting calories, and exercising regularly. I knew at some time that I couldn’t go on like this indefinitely, and I was afraid that the weight would return. I found that the fewer carbohydrates I ate, the better I looked and felt.

I conducted some online study to determine whether an all-meat diet was feasible to maintain. I decided to give it a try after discovering a group of individuals who ate this way and lived their most beautiful and wonderful lives.

I was able to stop depriving myself of food and pushing myself to go to the gym for long periods of time and just maintain my weight reduction. I was also able to restart my monthly cycle, which had been disrupted for the last two years. I became pregnant and had three carbohydrate-free pregnancies, which resulted to three of the most significant advantages of a carbohydrate-free diet…. My three beautiful children.

Problems with nutrition in carnivores


Despite her achievements, Charlene faced a number of challenges while transitioning to a meat-eating diet:

My greatest difficulty before switching to whole foods was envisioning how someone could be or remain skinny if they didn’t eat lean meats, whole foods, and (healthy?) veggies – particularly with little carbohydrates. I discovered categories of foods that I needed to remove one by one in order to be healthy.

I ate kilo after kilo of various veggies and became more ill. I was relieved when I gave up the final category in my quest for health and happiness – veggies. I would never have believed it if I hadn’t experienced it for myself. Hate me if you want, but it’s real. I’ve had more complaints from ladies than I can count.

After completing a meat-only diet, the task switched to enraging others: family members, friends, and a slew of social media users (albeit many years later). We’ve found, and continue to discover, that being around by good and helpful individuals is preferable than being surrounded by negative and destructive people. It is critical, regardless of who you are or what you do, in my opinion. When my life was on a knife’s edge, though, having positive people around us was critical.

Kelly, like Charlene, has encountered and overcome her own challenges:


It’s not simple to give up diet beverages, sweets, and eating at friends’ homes where carbohydrates haven’t been cooked without knowing it. The most difficult part for me was maintaining my no-carb/clean-carb diet while pregnant. I had to cope with a lack of support from the medical establishment and from individuals I knew personally, in addition to severe cravings and an aversion to meat.

We were always told that eating a lot of fiber and colorful fruits and vegetables was essential during pregnancy. What I did was the polar opposite of all of that, and it made people uncomfortable. But I knew how much better my body felt when I wasn’t eating carbohydrates, and a fetus is just a little person. So I made the decision not to stop there, and I’m glad I did. But, I’m not going to lie, it was a bit nerve-wracking and far from simple. If I had to do it all over again, I’d go with a low-carb diet.

What is the best way to approach a carnivorous diet?


Charlene’s suggestions for getting started on a carnivorous diet

I’ve seen individuals get the greatest results when they begin a meat-only diet by following a ketogenic or low-carb diet first, rather than starting with a low-carb diet. However, many individuals found the path to be helpful.


In a carnivorous diet, I highly advise eating lots of fat – animal fat is king! Purchase fatty pieces of meat and even inquire if the butcher would offer you uncut steak. Solicit the fat off another person’s steak from the butcher. If your meat is too lean, fry it in a skillet and eat it with it.


Also, make sure you consume sufficient amounts of meat! For years, individuals were told that getting a slim physique required just exercise and calorie control. Neither of these statements are correct! By way of reference, I’m 5’8″ tall and weigh about 100 pounds. Every day, I consume between 1800 and 2500 calories. That’s 1 to 1.5 pounds of cooked rib-eye (about 1.5 to 2 pounds in raw form).

After cooking, a raw medium or well done sirloin steak has approximately 80% fat by calories (not weight). I also suggest that you consume a lot of meat (or even just beef, as our family does). Fatty beef is the ideal diet, since it includes all of the necessary vitamins and minerals in the correct quantities.


We’ve also seen a lot of individuals struggle and fail on a meat-and-dairy-product-based diet. If you have a baby and are nursing, dairy products are beneficial. You don’t require dairy as an adult, particularly other kinds of dairy products. I can’t image how desperate the earliest humans had to be in order to get milk from a nursing ruminant!

Finally, I recommend that you join the Zeroing in on Health Facebook group. There are thousands (almost 20,000 members) of other meat-only diets on the site, as well as veterans who have been doing so for decades. There is a wealth of study information, books, and other materials available to back up the scientific foundation.

Kelly also suggests joining a no-carb online support group:


I just suggest giving yourself 30 days and finding a support system, such as the Zeroing In On Health Facebook group, the community, or Zero Carb Health. Simply evaluate how you feel at the conclusion of the 30 days. How does your skin appear? How do you cope with food cravings? What is your current level of energy?

Weight reduction, mental clarity, a more even mood, beautiful skin, fewer sugar cravings, higher energy levels, improved sleep, and reduced inflammation are common side effects. If you don’t feel better after 30 days, just return to your previous habits. Nothing is gained, nothing is lost. This isn’t always the case.
