For those of you low carbers and keto dieters, we have a treat for you! The BEST Keto Banana Bread is an absolutely amazing banana bread that is grain free and sugar free. We are a family of low carbers and we love this bread. This bread is also paleo friendly.
One thing we know for sure—bananas are good for you. The high magnesium content, vitamins, and fiber make them a perfect food to start a ketogenic diet. However, they make sweet breads a little tricky. There’s no sugar in bananas, but you can get a similar taste with a keto-friendly banana bread. This recipe makes use of the banana flavor of the fruit, which gives you a sweet bread with no added sugar—just pure, wholesome goodness.
The keto diet is a very low-carb, high-fat eating plan that has been proven to help you lose weight. Does this mean that everything you eat is going to be high in fat? Absolutely not! It’s not about eating as much fat as possible, it’s about eating the right kinds of fats for your body’s needs.
Who doesn’t like banana bread that’s thick, nutty, and flavorful? This dish is gluten-free, low-carb, and sugar-free. It’s ideal for a quick breakfast or grab-and-go snack. Make a loaf and reminisce about your favorite childhood snack!
Are Bananas Keto-Friendly?
Unfortunately, bananas are not keto-friendly. A medium banana contains 27 grams of carbohydrates, three grams of fiber, and 14 grams of sugar (1). While they do include certain vitamins and minerals, the carb content is too high for them to be consumed on a keto diet. Small quantities of bananas may be used in a low-carb diet on occasion, but a full loaf of banana bread does not qualify as keto.
Extract of Banana
We opted to use banana extract instead of bananas in this recipe. Banana extract is a calorie-free, banana-flavored product that is meant to taste like a banana without the sugar. While this isn’t your average mashed banana, it’s a fantastic way to substitute the high-carb fruit in keto dishes. Check to see whether the banana extract you’re using is calorie and carb free. Even high-quality flavorings are still very inexpensive, therefore we suggest using organic banana extract.
Does Banana Extract Have a Chemical Taste?
When it comes to flavorings, we completely understand your worry. Nobody wants their banana laffy taffy to taste like their banana bread from childhood. The quantity we use in this recipe, however, is just enough to provide that banana taste without being too overwhelming or coating your tongue. Start little and taste as you go if you’re worried about adding too much.
Is Banana Bread Good for You?
This banana bread recipe has all of the banana taste you want without any of the carbohydrates. A single slice of classic banana bread with mashed banana and additional sugar may contain up to 50 grams of net carbohydrates and over 400 calories (2)! Our banana bread recipe, on the other hand, has just 4 net carbohydrates and 332 calories to help you stick to your low-carb diet.

Banana Bread with No Sugar
We believe it is important to eat sugar-free meals. That’s why, instead of the typical high-sugar fruit, we utilize sugar-free banana extract in our banana bread. We also replaced normal sugar with erythritol, a low-carb, keto-friendly sweetener. It won’t cause an insulin surge like normal sugar, therefore it won’t cause the well-known sugar crash. Low-sugar meals are particularly beneficial for keto dieters since they keep carbohydrates low and allow you to remain on track. Making banana bread without bananas and instead using banana extract is a great way to cut down on unnecessary carbohydrates.
Banana Bread (Gluten-Free)
Our gluten-free banana bread keto recipe is equally delicious. This is due to the fact that we used almond flour and coconut flour instead of all-purpose flour. Per cup of standard white flour, there are 95 grams of carbohydrates and 92 grams of net carbs. Because you’d need 3-4 cups simply to fill the loaf pan, this isn’t a keto option. We add fiber to the recipe by adding coconut and almond flour, which helps with satiety and blood sugar control. These flours will keep you full and joyful without depleting your energy levels.
Banana Bread on the Keto Diet with No Dairy
This dish may be prepared without the use of dairy. There is just one dairy component in this dish, which is the butter. Simply replace the butter with coconut oil if you are lactose intolerant. It may modify the taste somewhat, but not enough to make a significant difference in the entire recipe. For a special treat, make a tropical banana bread with coconut oil, dark chocolate, and shredded coconut.
Banana Bread on the Keto Diet: How to Make It
The flavor of this keto banana bread is identical to that of the original. It’s nutty, thick, and jam-packed with banana flavor, so you can enjoy your favorite morning bread.
Ingredients
We’ll need the dry ingredients first to create this keto banana bread. To create the perfect fast bread texture, we utilized a combination of almond flour and coconut flour. Then we added baking powder to help the bread rise and cinnamon to give it a warm spiced taste. Finally, to bring out the sweetness of this banana bread recipe, you’ll need some salt.
Ingredients that are wet
Softened unsalted butter and cream cheese make up the wet components. To give the batter more structure, we used softened butter instead of molten butter. Because salt is added to the dry ingredients, it’s best to use unsalted butter while baking. If you only have salted butter, reduce the amount of salt in the recipe. Then you’ll need erythritol granules (or any other keto sweetener such as monk fruit or monk fruit and erythritol blends). To balance out the sugar alcohols, we usually use a mix of liquid stevia, so make sure you have some on available as well. Eggs, almond milk, chopped almonds, and the secret ingredient: banana extract are the last components.
Banana Bread with Low Carbs
You’ve come to the correct spot if you’re eager to get started making keto banana bread. Get your loaf pan ready, and let’s get this keto banana bread started!
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Set aside a 9-inch loaf pan lined with parchment paper. Combine the flours, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a small mixing dish. To avoid clumping, thoroughly combine all of the components. Combine the softened butter (not melted butter), cream cheese, erythritol, and stevia in a larger mixing dish.
Once the butter, cream cheese, and sweeteners are creamed together add the eggs in one at a time. When all the eggs have been added you can put the almond milk and banana flavor in with it. Mix well again (we used a hand mixer).
It’s acceptable if the egg mixture looks a little curdled. When all of the ingredients are combined, the batter will come together.
To avoid clumps of flour, sprinkle the dry mixture over the wet and stir well.
It’s now time to fold in your chosen nuts. If desired, chocolate may be added.
Place the batter in a loaf pan lined with parchment paper and top with any desired toppings. Cover the banana bread with aluminum foil and bake for 45-50 minutes. Around the 40-minute mark, remove the foil off the top of the recipe. The top will be able to brown as a result of this. Remove from the oven when the center is nearly completely set and a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
Allow the keto banana bread to cool fully in the pan before cutting.
Almond Flour Banana Bread Storage
- Keeping this keto banana bread recipe at room temperature is not a good idea. Instead, place it in the refrigerator.
- Before freezing the banana bread, we suggest slicing it. Keto flours produce a different kind of crumb than normal flour, thus if it isn’t cut, it will freeze as a single, uncuttable block. To avoid sticking, place the sliced banana bread in plastic bags and freeze.
Is it Possible to Make Keto Banana Bread Muffins?
If you would prefer to make banana bread muffins that is 100% okay and easy to do! Our sugar free banana bread recipe works great for meal prep which is why we actually recommend making pre portioned cups. The best keto banana bread recipe is super versatile and tastes delicious in every form!
To create keto banana bread muffins, follow these instructions. Using a muffin tin coated with paper liners or a silicone muffin pan on top of a baking sheet, divide your mixture. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Mix-Ins (Optional)
This low-carb banana bread recipe is the greatest since the coconut flour and almond flour give it a nutty taste. However, everyone knows that the addition of nuts and chocolate to banana bread makes it much more delectable. For your next keto banana bread baking day, we’ve prepared a list of our favorite gluten-free and sugar-free add-ins.
Nuts
Banana bread may be made with just about any nut, but our favorites are walnuts and pecans. They’re softer nuts with a buttery flavor and texture that bake up well without becoming too crispy. The following is a full list of nut options:
- Walnuts are a low-carb, high-fat nut that is often included in banana breads.
- Pecans are another high-fat nut with a high fiber content, making them ideal for blood sugar control. (3)
- Chopped Almonds- These will be a little crunchier than your typical keto banana bread nut, but they’ll taste just as good.
- A handful of coarsely chopped cashews- Cashews are the highest carb nut, but they shouldn’t contribute more than a carb per serving in tiny quantities diced.
It’s up to you whatever nut you choose to eat; just keep in mind that the carb counts will vary depending on which one you select. Although walnuts are the most conventional addition to a banana bread recipe, don’t be afraid to be creative and test different combinations.
Chocolate
For those who are curious, chocolate chip banana bread is keto-friendly. The only difference today is that the foundation is made with coconut flour, and the topping is made with sugar-free chocolate chips! When choosing a sugar-free chocolate, keep the following in mind:
- Is it Truly Sugar-Free? – Sugars with fancy names like fructose, cane sugar, coconut sugar, and so on should be avoided. Even if they don’t mention refined sugar, they aren’t keto.
- Is it possible that they are free of harmful sugar alcohols?– You’d be amazed how many sugar-free chocolates include sweeteners such as sucralose and Maltitol. They’re not only bad for your stomach, but Maltitol, in particular, reacts in your body like sugar! Check out our in-depth blog article on the best keto sweeteners for additional information.
- Is it Dark Chocolate– Sometimes we get caught up in examining all the little details that we overlook the major ones! Unless it’s a certified keto/sugar-free milk chocolate like one from Lily’s, double-check that the chocolate you purchase is dark.
Chocolates for Keto Diet
To make things even simpler, we’ve included a list of some of the finest keto-friendly chocolates and chocolate chips below. You may now enjoy keto banana bread without the traditional 30 net carbohydrates per piece!
- 100% Bakers Chocolate– Bakers chocolate is exactly what it sounds like: chocolate for baking. It’s a bitter dark chocolate in its purest form, with no milk or sugar added. It’s rich in fiber and low in net carbohydrates, so it’s the ideal chocolate topping for your low-carb banana bread loaf.
- Lily’s Chocolate Bars– Lily’s Chocolate Bars are sweetened with stevia and erythritol, making them the finest sugar-free chocolate bar on the market. The mix of sweet chocolate, banana essence, and walnuts creates a genuine banana bread flavor.
- Lily’s Chocolate Chips– Their chocolate chips, like their bars, are sweetened with high-quality ingredients. We think you’ll like the semisweet chips in this keto banana bread as much as we do!
You may need to cut the chocolate depending on whether you select chips or bars. We like a rough cut for bars so that you may get chocolate bits in every mouthful. If you choose for chips, go ahead and pile on the additional chocolate on top of your culinary creation.
Making the Best Keto Banana Bread Recipe Tips
- Cover with foil before baking– This banana bread is simple to prepare and only needs a little preparation before baking. While this is a fast bread to prepare outside of the oven, it will be in the oven for a long time, so we don’t want the top of our keto bread to brown too much. While it’s baking, be sure to cover it with foil.
- Don’t Overbake– Make sure your keto bread doesn’t spend too much time in the oven. It may brown too much or get dry if you bake it after it has been prepared. Putting a toothpick in and checking whether it comes out nearly completely clean is a good test. Because the loaf is so thick, it will continue to cook while it rests.
- Try it Dairy-Free– That’s right, you can make this dish dairy-free! There is just one dairy component in this dish, and that is butter. Substitute softened/melted coconut oil for the butter. Coconut oil will not only keep the banana taste, but it will also offer you a tropical banana bread recipe.
- Measure Your Ingredients– It may seem obvious, but measuring your ingredients ensures that all ratios are as exact as possible, preventing dry bread. If you can weigh the dry ingredients, you’ll have an extra degree of assurance that your low carb keto banana bread is flawless!
Toppings for Low-Carb Meals
Depending on whether you want an aesthetically pleasing banana bread or a toppings-loaded banana bread, there are a variety of ways to top your low carb keto banana bread. The following are some of our favorite toppings for keto banana bread:
- Using a Real Banana!– While bananas are not low carb, slicing a real banana to put on top would only add approximately 2-3 grams of carbohydrates per slice. Although real banana bread typically includes a banana topping, it’s better to leave it out if you want to create banana bread entirely low carb.
- Nuts– What were you thinking if you didn’t include nuts to this recipe? If you like banana bread, you’re going to adore this keto banana bread with nuts. Make a low carb bread loaf with an additional 1/4 cup of walnuts pressed on top for added crunch and beauty.
- Sure, we put chocolate inside, and yes, we’ll top it off with even more wonderful low-carb chocolate. Before baking, we usually take whole pieces of Lily’s bars (which are smaller squares) and put them on top of the bread. On top, they become warm, gooey chocolate pockets. I’m not sure whether we can be buddies unless you enjoy keto-friendly banana bread with no chocolate…
Make sure that whatever ingredients you add on top of the bread you slightly press in. Things like real bananas and chunks of chocolate will rise a bit and we want to make sure they stick. Like always remember the carb count will change depending on the toppings used (especially if it’s real bananas!).
Keto Desserts That Aren’t Gluten-Free
Wait till you see our other keto dishes if this banana bread recipe has piqued your interest. From fudgy brownies and cakes to lemon drizzle cookies and strawberry cheesecakes, we have it all. Here are a few of our favorites:

To give them a delicate crisp and fluff, add a pinch of baking powder. When you’re wanting a doughnut, they’re the ideal keto treat.
