The state of Mississippi, which had legalized medical marijuana in 2016, has just become the latest state to face legal challenges to its medical cannabis program.

A federal judge in Mississippi ruled on Monday that the state’s laws legalizing medical marijuana are unconstitutional. The ruling comes in the case of Paul G. Mills, who was indicted by state prosecutors for growing and possessing marijuana, as well as two counts of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense.

The Mississippi Supreme Court has decided to intervene in the state’s ongoing medical cannabis legalization case. The Court will reconsider Attorney General Jim Hood’s lawsuit against the state’s successful ballot initiative, which Mississippi voters approved last year.
