Joe Exotic, a former Bolingbrook cop, is serving an eight-year sentence for selling painkillers prescribed to patients whose prescriptions had been filled by his mother. He is now selling cannabis that he grows in his jail cell.

Joe Exotic, a convicted drug trafficker serving time in a federal prison, launched a new brand of cannabis products from his jail cell. The target audience is those serving time in any federal prison, and those who have been released but are struggling with consequences of their criminal conviction.

Tiger King is about to launch its own cannabis brand. And yes, he’s still behind bars.

Joe Exotic, the same guy from the Netflix series King of Tigers, is getting into the cannabis business. Unlike many other cannabis entrepreneurs, he is launching his brand from prison.

According to TMZ, Exotic (real name Joseph Maldonado-Passage) has been working on the idea for the cannabis brand since last July. In a statement, Brad Small, one of Exotic’s attorneys, said his client will be working with Tango Hotel Charlie Group, LLC and Cannaxxs LTD. The joint brand will be called Joe Exotic Cannabis.

To make this story even crazier, Exotic is teaming up with Jason Hervey, the big brother of the popular TV series The Wonder Years.

According to Forbes, Small told Hervey he wanted a deal in the cannabis industry for his client, and the rest is history. I told Brad: It’s funny, a friend and I are talking about the cannabis business right now, Hervey said. The timing was right, the chemistry was even better – and here we go.

The press release further states that:

When asked how he feels about doing business with a man who is in prison for contract killing – Moldanado-Passage strongly denies the charges for which he was convicted – Hervey admits that Joe Exotic is a polarizing figure, but he thinks that being in prison only makes Joe’s story and brand more appealing.

Exotic seems to have been involved in every step of the brand’s creation process through phone calls and emails. One of Exotic’s motivations for getting into the cannabis industry is the desire to provide relief to people suffering from various ailments.

Joe Exotic Cannabis will include a variety of products and will be sold in dispensaries in Colorado, California and Oklahoma. The brand’s products will contain THC in states where it is legal (California and Colorado) and CBD.

The brand will launch in a few weeks and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to organizations that care for tigers in captivity.

In addition to the Tiger King, the much-anticipated Exotica 2020 also featured a disagreement with the Trump administration after he tried to get a pardon from the then president. Exotic now says he’s more confident that President Biden and Vice President Harris will do the right thing, not just for me, but for the thousands of people serving long prison sentences for non-violent crimes like conspiracy.

Despite the end of the documentary series, Hollywood isn’t done with the story of Joe Exot and Carol Baskin. Two scripts for TV series are in development, one with Nicolas Cage, the other with Kate McKinnon and Cameron Mitchell.
