Earlier this month, the Danish Minister of Health, Astrid Krag, announced her plans to permit cannabis cultivation and importation of the drug in Denmark, thereby ending two-year-old prohibition on medical cannabis in the country. It’s a major milestone in the country’s gradual process of re-establishing its cannabis production and use.
Denmark has legalized the recreational use of cannabis by adults, and is now allowing it to be grown and sold commercially. But cultivating, producing, and selling marijuana is still illegal under Danish law, which is why the country is allowing import of marijuana for medical purposes.
The decision to authorize medical cannabis was taken by the Danish Parliament after an extensive and wide-ranging research, negotiation and reflection process which included a wide-ranging public consultation. The result of the decision to decide to allow the use of medicinal cannabis is that the people in Denmark can now benefit from a new health service.
